Dmytro Gnativ, DMA

Bio

Dmytro Gnativ is a flutist and educator whose musical journey began at the age of eight when he started attending the local conservatory in Sambir, Ukraine, for flute and piano lessons with Ihor Fedorenko and Natalia Moskalenko. Later, he pursued his studies at the Lviv State Music College with Liliana Stadnyk and at the Lviv National Music Academy with Andriy Karpiak, where he obtained a bachelor's degree in 2015. Shortly after graduation in 2015, he was appointed as second flute and piccolo to the Khmelnytsky Symphony Orchestra. In 2017, he was offered the opportunity to pursue a master’s degree at the Univ. of Nevada, Las Vegas, studying under the mentorship of Dr. Jennifer Grim. Subsequently, in 2019, Dmytro was awarded a fellowship at the Univ. of Miami, Frost School of Music, where he successfully completed his DMA.

Dmytro is passionately dedicated to the promotion of lesser-known classical works, with his current focus on Ukrainian composers. He has delivered lecture-recitals featuring works by Ukrainian composers at the Mid-Atlantic Flute Convention, Florida Flute Convention, San Diego Flute Festival, Lithuania's X International ÄŒiurlionis Music Festival, Univ. of Miami, and other venues. His articles on Ukrainian music have been featured in several flute magazines, including The Flutist Quarterly.

In his most recent publication, titled "An Anthology of Flute Music by Ukrainian Composers, 1850 - 2022," Dmytro has uncovered over four hundred works by Ukrainian composers, most of which await their performances. Dmytro performs with the Palm Beach Symphony, Florida Grand Opera, The Symphonia, New World Symphony, and other orchestras in South Florida. While enjoying a successful solo and orchestra career, Dmytro also maintains a thriving flute studio, serves as the flute teacher at "Musicall," and is a site coordinator of its music afterschool program.
